Executive Director

Renee Daniel Flagler is the Executive Director of Girls Inc. of Long Island, whose mission is to empower girls to be strong, smart and bold. Renee is also an award-winning writer, adjunct professor, and a speaker who is passionate about encouraging women and youth to pursue their passion and purpose. Renee advocates for youth both in the United States and abroad. She is a founding board member and former Board Chair for LEAP (Literacy Empowerment Action Project) Global, an organization with a mission to provide innovative literacy, youth empowerment programming, and high school scholarships to students in Ghana, Africa.

Prior to being promoted to the role of Executive Director of Girls Inc. of Long Island, Renee worked as the Program Manager, overseeing program development, school partnerships, training and supervision of the programming staff. Renee facilitated literacy programs, developed curriculum and provided professional development as a freelance teaching artist for several years with organizations such as, Community Word Project, Voices Unbroken, Writopia, and Divine Write. Before working in youth development, Renee spent over a decade in the field of marketing where she worked as a marketing manager and consultant for various companies including Verizon, CMP Media, The Network Journal, and Working Mother Media.

In addition to serving as the Board Chair for LEAP Global, Renee was also a member of the Board of Directors for The National Coalition of One Hundred Black Women, Long Island Chapter, Inc., an organization with a mission to help woman and girls advance in the areas of health, education, and economic development. She has received many accolades for her writing and community service work from various companies including The City of Long Beach, New York Association of Black Journalists, Black Star News and Unlock Your Dreams.

Renee splits her time between her family and her passions for literature and working with youth. Renee is the author of several novels and is often called on to speak to groups of woman and young people at events with a focus on finding purpose and pursuing dreams.

Renee is a graduate of New School University with a Masters of Arts in Media Arts and St. John’s University with a Bachelor of Science in Communications. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts from The College of New Rochelle and is expected to graduate in May 2018.
