5 Tips to Stay Positive During the Coronavirus Pandemic

In the midst of COVID-19 craziness, staying positive is easier said than done. Let’s face it: Stress and anxiety are inevitable in these uncertain times. All it takes is watching the news for two minutes to go into panic mode.

If you’re having a tough time staying positive during the coronavirus pandemic, you’re not alone. But the good news is you can take back control of your mental health.

Coping with a crisis requires asking yourself one very important question: Will you run and hide until it’s over or face these challenges head on and transform them into opportunities? It’s entirely up to you.

It’s during times like these that we can either fall apart or grow into a better version of ourselves. If you choose the latter, here are five tips to boost your positivity, and come out of this pandemic healthier and stronger!

  1. Keep your mind healthy

Whether the source of your stress is about finances, health, relationships or all of the above, staying sane some days can feel nearly impossible.

The problem is that many of us have unconsciously developed habits that are harming our mental health.  For instance, do you check your phone first thing in the morning? Do you spend 20 minutes reading emails or browsing through your Instagram feed? Your head hasn’t even left the pillow and you’re already overstimulated.

Let’s try a different approach. Rather than reaching for your phone, try meditating for 10 minutes. The way you spend your morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. So, instead of starting off with your mind racing why not start off with getting your mind centered?

  1. Keep your body healthy

It’s no secret the mind and body are connected, which is why you need to keep your body healthy to keep your mind healthy and vice versa.

If you’re an avid exerciser, chances are the coronavirus has thrown your exercise routine out of whack. But, now more than ever, it’s essential to make your physical health a priority. Thankfully, there are many at-home workouts available. And while you may not have access to gym equipment, there are many effective bodyweight exercises such as squats, lunges, wall sits and more. These exercises not only burn calories, but they also boost your strength.

Along with exercising regularly, be conscious of what you’re eating. Food affects your mood, and the way you eat affects how you feel. So make healthy choices! Your mind and body will thank you.

  1. Schedule virtual dates with friends and family

Social distancing has made us all a little stir crazy. But just because we have to keep our distance, doesn’t mean we can’t stay close. There are many ways to connect with our loved ones remotely.

One of the best ways to do this is to set up virtual meetups. Whether you want an activity that’s low key or fun, there’s something for everyone. For a movie night, you can try Netflix parties. There’s a chat option so you can talk while you watch. For a coffee date or happy hour, you can use Google Hangouts or Zoom.

  1. Cut down on media time

How many times each day do you turn on the news? (Come on, be honest!)

Of course, you need to be informed about what’s happening in the world, but if you watch the news too often you’ll feel anxious and depressed. Studies prove it.

It seems obvious, but it’s one of the easiest and most effective tips to stay positive during COVID-19.

  1. Come up with a schedule that works for you

While working from home seems like a dream come true, it can be problematic – especially when it comes to productivity. If you’re the type of person who enjoys structure and having a schedule, create a to-do list for the day.

In a time when many of us feel out of control, it’s helpful to do what we can to stay organized and focused. Productivity and positivity go hand in hand.

Easily distracted by the people, pets, technology or all of the above? Pick a room in the house where you won’t be disturbed. Create a space that’s comfortable but not too comfortable. Think more home office, and less zen den. How well can you focus if you’re surrounded by meditation pillows and candles?

To minimize distraction, make sure you have everything you need on hand. For example, if you enjoy a few cups of coffee in the morning, set up a coffee maker so you don’t have to leave the room. And if you tend to get hungry between meals, make sure you have healthy snacks nearby.

Turn these Challenges into Opportunities

In this difficult time, we all need to dig deep and find our inner strength. Creating lasting change is only possible when you commit to making positive lifestyle changes and developing positive habits.

This pandemic is a true test of our character. Are you going to crumble under stress? Or will you take this time to grow and become stronger?
